A Jewish family in the village of Pasto-Oso### in the district of Mohileif was found ### mordered in their home.
The victims were Leib Osinowski, his wife. Chaya and their danghter. Liza. The victims were tormed to death by the bandits. Their eyes were gonged one their heads and hands ent off. The corpses were covered with feathers from pillows which had been ripped open. Fighty-eight roubles and a silver watch were taken by the bandits.
The morderers. four Russians. were captured. They were proven to be professional bandits, guilty of many similar crimes.
TRACES OF EARLY JEWISH COMMUNITY IN BRITISH COLUMBIA SOUGHT
Post No. 2, Native Sons of British Columbia, announced yesterday that it had asked the Province and the University of British Columbia to investigate traces of Hebrew and Chinese influence in the Province between 1100 and 1600 A.D., an Associated Press despatch from Vancouver stated.
Van T. Shindler, chief factor of the post, making the announcement, said that the study should be made “before old men and women of Indian tribes who are today in a position to recount the customs and beliefs of the aboriginal peoples of British Columbia have passed away.”
Father Lejeune of Kamloops, a pioneer missionary of British Columbia and probably the foremost linguist of native dialects, reports that words of Hebrew are found in most languages of the Province.
“Among the Tehimpsheans were such customs as the burnt offering of food and fasting from sunset one day to sunset the next day in times of stress,” he said. “The theory has been advanced that, following establishment of a Jewish community at Kaifeng, China, Chinese expeditions brought Jewish traders to the Pacific Coast of North America,” the despatch stated.
