Sir Flinders Petric, famous English archaeologist and scholar, arrived in Gaza for the purpose of starting excavation work.

Professor Petrie, who made excavations in Palestine in 1890, when he showed at Tell-el-Hesy, how relics of pottery denoted the relative dates of the strata which had been exposed in the excavations, gave up his recent work in Egypt, finding the new regulations there unsatisfactory. Professor Petric is undertaking excavations in Southern Palestine.
