The sum of $1,539,385 for the United Jewish Campaign was raised in Philadelphia in the seven day campaign here.
The Jewish community oversubscribed its goal of $1,500,000 by thirty-nine thousand dollars. The total figures were announced Sunday evening at a dinner attended by the fifteen hundred workers in the campaign.
The campaign was conducted under the most adverse circumstances. Wednesday afternoon, the third day of the drive, it seemed as if Philadelphia, for the first time in its history, would fail. At that time, less than one-half of the quota had been raised. Following an S. O. S. call issued by the leaders, the workers intensified their efforts and surpassed their goal.
Albert H. Lieberman, Chairman of the Eastern Pennsylvania United Jewish Campaign; Morris Wolf, Chairman of the Campaign; Judge Horace Stern, and Mr. Lieberman addressed the gathering.
The sum of $1,539,385, represents ten thousand contributors, a very large proportion of whom were secured through the efforts of the one thousand women under the leadership of Mrs. Jerome H. Louncheim.
Judge Horace Stern, President of the Federation of Jewish Charities, announced that Albert H. Lieberman has been offered the chairmanship in the Federation of Jewish Charities drive which will be held in January.
