Soviet Officials, Guilty of Terrorizing Jews, on Trial in Ukraine

Ten Soviet officials and militiamen are on trial in the township of Tsetschelnik, Ukraine, for terrorizing and extorting money from the Jewish population.

One of the militiamen Tcherkasoff, used to stand in the middle of the market place of the town and shout: “As I cut down Jews in 1919 I will cut you down.”

The officials and the militiamen would make purchases in the Jewish shops and refuse payment. They would compel Jewish artisans to make suits and boots for them and refuse to pay for them. One hundred and thirty-one witnesses were called in the trial.
