No disturbances took place in the city of Kovno during the military coup d’etat which resulted in the formation of the new government, declared Henrikas Rabinowiczis, Lithuanian Consul General in New York, in a statement based on cable advices he received from Kovno, which he issued to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency yesterday.
This statement is a denial of the reports of the German Ullstein Syndicate coming via Vilna to the effect that anti-Jewish and anti-Polish excesses took place in Kovno during the change in government.
The president of the Lithuanian Republic, Dr. Grinius, resigned Sunday morning and at a special session of the Lithuanian parliament Antanas Smetona was elected president.
