Two Jewish workmen, Abramowicz and Raphael Czarni, as well as two Christian workmen, were executed yesterday in Kovno, at the decision of a court martial. The four were sentenced to death on the charge of having participated in an attempt to organize a Communist uprising in Lithuania.
A delegation, headed by Rabbi Schapiro appealed to President Smetona for executive clemency. The president refused to grant the request.
Press despatches received in Warsaw state that during the past two days, 150 Jews were arrested in Kovno and are to be tried before a court martial. Members of other national minorities, including the Germans and Poles, were also arrested by the new government.
