Judge Rosalsky to Head Jewish Orthodox Congregations Conference in May

Preparations to celebrate the cornerstone laying of the Ycshiva College of America at Amsterdam Avenue between 186th and 187th Streets on Ma) 1st, 1927, are being completed, according to announcement made by Samuel Levy, Chairman of the .Executive Committee of the Ycshiva College Building Fund.

One of the decisions taken by the JVxeeirti e Committee of the JJiiildititf Fund was made public by Mr. Levy in announcing ihe itxt of a resolution j adojiied by the Executive Committee I (0 honor Kabbi M. S. MargolicS, Honorary Vresilient of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis anil dean of the American Rabbinate, on the occasion of his seventy-fifth birthday and his fiftieth anniversary of service in the Kabbinatc. The Executive Committee has decided to name the teachers’ institute of the Yeshiva, the “Kabbi M> S. Mareolies Touchers* Institute*”. A special fund will be set aside for the purpose of erecting a building to house the Teachers’ Institute. The institute, which prepares teachers for Jewish religious and Hebrew Schools, is in existence since -1918 and is part of the Ycshiva.

A special committee which consists of representatives of lite Yeshiva and of various orgaiiialiorts and congregations with which kabbi M. S. Mar-colics has been connected, is being formed to celebrate this event. A Tes-I umomul iJimicr will be tendered him on the evening of May 1st in connection with the corners ion c laying festivities. Rabbi XI- S. Margolics is lionorory chainnan of the Yeshiva ollege Building Fund and lias been active in promoting the interests of the institutions devoted 10 Jewish learning both in the United States and abroad.

A conference of Orthodox Jewish Congregations to celebrate the corner stone laying of the Yeshiva College of America, is now beine d. Judge 0111.1 kosaisky has accepted the chairmanship of the Committee which has called the conference, Mr. Levy announced.

It is expected that representatives of several thousand Orthodox Jewish Congregations in the United States and Canada will be assembled at the cornerstone laying and at the conference at which the problem of Jewish education in America will be considered. Over nine hundred congregations in greater New York and other cities have responded to the call of Judge Rasalsky, declaring their readiness to send delegations to the confernce. Harris L. Selig, Executive director of the Yeshiva, announced.

The Agudas Achim North Shore Congregation of Chicago will dedicate its new temple on February 25, 26 and 27.

The temple has just been completed at an expense of more than $350,000. It is said to be one of the most beautiful in the United States.

The altar is the only one of its kind in the West. It is composed of mosaice of various kinds blended to give beautiful color effects. The decorations are in the Byzantine style. The pews are arranged in a semi-circle. A hanging gallery extends along the sides and rear of the auditorium. An indirect lighting system was installed so that there are no lighting fixtures except a few for decortative effect. The congregation consists of 150 members.

The Agudas Achim North Shore Congregation is the successor to the old First Hungarian Congregation of Chicago, which was established by pioneer Jews in the city, and the North Shore Congregation which was the first to be established in Edgewater.
