British Press Welcomes Publication of New Disraeli Literature

The British press welcomed the publication of new Disraeli literature which has just appeared here.

The newspapers comment favorably on a memoir of Disraeli by D. L. Murray and on a new edition of Disraeli’s novels, containing brilliant prefaces to each volume by Philip Guedalla. Guedalla is described by the critics as “always witty and judicious.” The new edition must enlarge the circle of those who admire Disraeli as a novelist, it is declared.

Murray’s memoir emphasizes Disraeli’s pride that he was of Jewish descent and his pride in the intellectual immortality of his race.

The press also reviews Schnitzler’s Beatrice and other stories which have just appeared here in English translation. The critics state that Schnitzler’s psychology is superb.
