Results in the campaign row in progress in various parts of the country to raise the $2,000,000 being sought by the Wider Scope Committee of the Independent Order B’nai B’rith, were announced by Alfred M. Cohen, president of the Order.
Intensive organization work is now in progress in the West and in the South. Mr. Cohen and Dr. Boris D. Bogen, executive director of the Order, are speaking in various parts of the country, making appeals in behalf of the fund.
Among the first cities to exceed their quotas in the campaign was Toledo. O. The quota for this city was $60,000, and in a joint campaign held recently for the B’nai B’rith Wider Scope Fund and the Building Fund for the Cleve-land Orphan Home, a B’nai B’rith institution, $75,000 was secured. The drive was under the direction of Harry Levinson and Morris Lampert.
Steubenville, O., also reports the successful raising of its quota of $25000. M. H. Fried was in charge of the drive.
In Cincinnati the B’nai B’rith joined with the local Bureau of Jewish Education for a combined drive. At the opening dinner $50,000 was pledged towards the Cincinnati quota. The principal speaker at the dinner was Judge Harry M. Fisher of Chicago. Alfred M. Cohen presided. Nathan Ransohoff and Morton Heldman are in charge of the campaign.
Reports from Chicago state that the B’nai B’rith lodges in that district are conducting a drive to raise that city’s quota.
The campaign in Denver, Colo., was launched this week. It is under the direction of Arthur F. Friedman, State Chairman.
In Roanoke, Va., a convention of the lodges comprising District No. 5 was recently held and plans completed for the carrying on of a drive in that section.
Another Southern conference was recently held in Shreveport, La., of members comprising District No. 7, which will conduct its campaign from March 10th to April 15th. This district has accepted a quota of $200,000. Louis Pizitz, of Birmingham, was chosen chairman, and Leo K. Steiner treasurer.
