Anti-Jewish riots took place here last night at the Romanisches Cafe.
The riots were perpetrated by a band of Hakenkreuzler who attacked Jewish patrons in the cafe. Dr. Adolf Cohn, Polish Jewish physician, was wounded. The attackers escaped.
Of the three prize winners at the Annual Oratorical Contest of the Metropolitan League of Y.M.H.A.’s, held at the Bronx Y.M.H.A., two were on Achad Ha’am. Miss Sarah Goodman, of the Bronx Y. M. H. A., won the first prize with a brilliant oration on “The Palestine of Achad Ha’am.” Robert Marcus, of the Borough Park Y. M. H. A., won the third prize for his talk on the same subject. Six organizations competed. Moses Herman, of the 92nd Street Y. M. H. A., who spoke on “The Meaning of the Constitution. Today” won the second prize. Maldwin Fertig, president of the Bronx Y. M. H. A., was chairman, and the judges were Leo B. Kagan, attorney; Samuel Leff, field secretary of the Jewish Welfare Board; and Louis Diamant.
