British Zionist Debaters, Here, Received by Mayor Walker at City Hall

The debating team representing the University Zionist Federation of the British Empire which arrived on the Berengaria Friday for the purpose of meeting the Avukah, American Student Zionist Federation, in a national series of debates, was officially received by Mayor Walker at City Hall yesterday.

The mayor expressed his interest in the mission of the British team and the hope that the friendly intellectual encounter between the American and the British teams will result in more widespread interest in the Zionist movement and other problems of the Jewish people.

Commissioner of Health, Dr. Louis Harris, Chairman of the New York reception committee, introduced the British team.

The visiting team consists of Dr. David Perk, Arthur Lourie and Miss Bertha Gudansky, hailing respectively from Johannesburg, S. A., Cambridge, England, and Dublin, Ireland.

Besides the members of the British team, the delegation which was received by Mayor Walker included Max Rhoade, national president of Avukah, who responded on behalf of the American organization, the New York team, consisting of Lionel Golub, Leo Guzik, Dr. Samuel Nirenstein and Beryl Levy, alternate, Isidore J. Lapson, president of the New York chapter, Milton Goell, Robert Mendelsohn and others.

Following the reception by the Mayor the British team left New York for its tour which starts with a debate tomorrow night with the Boston Avukah, to be followed by debates with Avukah chapters in Toronto, Chicago, Milwaukee, Philadelphia and New York.

The members of the British team yesterday addressed the national executive committee of the Avukah at a special meeting called for the occasion in New York.
