The program of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, the Jewish Colonization Association and the Emigdirekt for Jewish emigrant aid work in various European and South American countries was finally ratified at a conference of representatives of the three organizations which met here yesterday. Dr. Franz Phillipson, president of the Jewish Colonization Association, presided.
A budget of $166,000 was adopted and an administrative council to serve for one year was chosen. The Administrative Council consists of ten members of the lca and ten of the Hias and Emigdirekt. Dr. James Simon was elected president of the Council.
In the discussion which preceded the election, Dr. Oscar Kohn, former member of the Prussian cabinet, Dr. Bernstein, and Dr. Myron Kreinin participated, explaining the details of the work. Messages were received by the conference from New York, Montreal, Warsaw, Riga, Berlin and Rotterdam.
Charged with conspiring to monopolize the kosher meat trade in the United States and Canada, the Chicago Meat Peddler’s Association was made defendant in a suit for $180,000 damages, filed by the Kosher Sausage Company of Chicago. The Kosher Company also seeks an injunction to restrain the meat peddlers from further interference, and was granted a temporary restraining order pending a hearing.
The firm of Sapiro & Marx filed the suits.
The petition named fifty-one defenants, including individuals and companies. alleging they joined to violate the Sherman Anti-Trust Law in a monopoly of the kosher meat trade.
