The unavoidable resignation of Arthur Samuel, Minister of Overseas Trade, due to the cuts in the British budget according to the Churchill plan, is regretted widely throughout the British press.
The Ministry of Overseas Trade is one of the three governmental departments which are to be abolished under the new budget plan. The newspapers emphasize that Mr. Samuel is by far the most efficient of the three ministers whose posts are lost due to the cut. It is pointed out that Samuel is one of the conspicuously able and industrious members of the government, who can not be spared. It is expected that changes will be made in the government personnel so as to give the former minister of Overseas Trade a new post.
