The program for the second annual conference of the National Council of Jewish Education was announced by Israel S. Chipkin, Educational Director of the Jewish Education Association of New York, and chairman of the conference committee. The conference will take place in Atlantic City on Sunday May 29th and continue until Wednesday evening, June 1st. Headquarters have been established at the Hotel Ritz Carlton.
A feature of the Conference will be the consideration to be given to the unschooled Jewish child. Members of the National Association of Jewish Community Center Secretaries have been invited to be the guests of the National Council for Jewish Education at this session. Dr. Isaac B. Berkson will be chairman.
Figures gathered by Jewish educators place the number of Jewish children in this country at 800,000. Of these only 30% are receiving Jewish instruction.
At the present time the Jews of America are spending approximately $7,000,000 a year for Jewish education, or an average of $30 per child.
