More details of the first grant of land for the settlement of Jewish families in Siberia were made known here.
The area comprises 750 dessiatin of land near the station of Alieskoj for the settlement of 50 Jewish families. The land is situated in an area of sugar factories and is suitable for beetroot growing. Each settler will require a sum of 1,200 roubles for the establishment of a farm. The Government will grant as credit towards this a sum of between 450 and 500 roubles. The rest of the money will have to be found by the settlers within the course of a year. It is possible that the sugar factories will make advance payments to the settlers on account of the future deliveries of beet.
The land is situated near the industrial area of Siberia with the Siberian-Turkestan railway on one side and the Kuznetzk basin on the other so that there is considerable prospect for development.
An area of land has also been set aside for Jewish settlement in Uzbetzktan. Sixty-five families have already left Namangan and Khokand to settle there.
