Fire Destroys Synagogues in Polish Town

Much damage resulted from a fire which broke out last night in the town Rozhanke in the vicinity of Nowogrodek. The two synagogues in the town were destroyed. The majority of the population is Jewish.

A group of representative Jews of Indianapolis have formed. “The Jewish Weliare Fund.” whereby eight or more drives have been combined in one and which will result in a saving of $70 ## it is estimated, and the time and effort of campaign workers.

The Jewish Welfare Fund includes appropriations for local, national and international Jewish appeals.

The officers of the organization are: J. A. Goodman, president: J. J. Kiser, vice-president : Nathan Berkowitz. treasuier; Mrs. Samuel L. Hahn, secretary, and George W. Rabinoff. executive director. The Fund’s drive will take place on June 8th to the 15th.

Sophie Irene Loeb, Judge Algerman Nova and Oscar A. Lewis were the puncipal speakers Sunday at a meeting at the Brooklyn Hebrew Orphan Asylum, 373 Ralph Avenue, Brooklyn, which is carrying on a campaign to place 300 of its wards in private homes in brooklyn and Long Island. Miss Loeb is President of the Child Welfare Committee of America. She said that “in the United States there is spent annually approximately $40,000,000 to care for 150,000 children in institutions, with an additional $300,000,000 invested in property by public and private funds.”
