The death of Lord Swaythling is mourned throughout the English press. The City regarded Lord Swaythling one of the richest men in the world, states the “Evening News”, “and considered that he had the quickest and most far seeing brain in the banking world.”

Bankers cited Lord Swaythling’s great services to the state in the financing of the World War and his advice on the silver question in India.
