A Jewish councillor candidate for the position of vicepresident of the Warsaw City Council, was defeated in the elections. Two vice-presidents were elected, one Socialist and the other a member of the Polish National Democratic Party.
The defeat of the Jewish candidate was brought about by a unanimous agreement of all the Polish councillors, it was learned. This action called forth a strong protest form the group of Jewish councillors.
In their protest the Jewish members of the Council point to the fact that London had at one time a Jew as Lord Mayor as did Rome, while in Warsaw, where the Jewish population consists of one third of the total population, a Jewish candidate for vicemayor was defeated.
Three Jewish advisors to the city administration were elected. Two of them. Moses Koerner and Dr. Bychowsky, are Zionists, the third, Victor Alter, is a representative of the Jewish labor party, Bund.
