Issue Figures on Yiddish and Hebrew Publications

One hundred and four Yiddish daily and periodical publications appeared in Poland during the year 1925, according to the figures of the State Statistical Office, made public here. During the same year there were fifteen Hebrew periodical publications appearing in the country. Yiddish and Hebrew periodical publications together constituted 8 per cent, of the total number of periodical publications issued in the country during the year. In 1926 there was an addition of 56 new Yiddish and 11 Hebrew periodical publications. One of the Yiddish publications and two of the Hebrew had been previously suspended and were now resuming publication. 51 Yiddish periodical publications and 11 Hebrew stopped publication, however. during the year.

Forty – five Yiddish and seven Hebrew periodical publications appeared in Warsaw, 9 Yiddish and I Hebrew in Lodz, 9 Yiddish and 2 Hebrew in Vilna, 3 Yiddish and 2 Hebrew in Cracow, 5 Yidish and 2 Hebrew in Lemberg.

Of the Yiddish publications 77 are of an informative and social-political character. 5 are illustrated and for light reading, there is 1 comic journal, 3 are issued by the young. 4 are issued for the young, 2 are pedagogue journals. 3 are devoted to the theatre, art and music, 1 is bibliographical, 2 scientific. 1 medical-hygienic, and 1 economic. Of the Hebrew publications, 1 is generally informative and political, 4 are religious, 5 for the youth, 2 pedagogic, and 4 various.
