Rothenberg is Elected to Vice-presidency of Zionist Organization

Calls for ‘Truce,’ in Address after Unanimous Election

Morris Rothenberg, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the United Palestine Appeal, was elected vice-president of the Zionist Organization of America at a meeting of the Zionist national executive committee held Sunday at the Hotel Pennsylvania.

The vote for Mr. Rothenberg, who succeeds Miss Henrietta Szold, now a member of the Palestine Zionist Executive, was unanimous.

Mr. Rothenberg who, as chairman of the National Board of the Keren Hayesod has been very active in the Palestine fund raising activities in the United States, has taken a leading part in shaping the Zionist policies in this country for the past decade.

In an address he delivered following his election to the vice-presidency, Mr. Rothenberg called on the Zionists throughout the country to abstain from further indulgence in self-criticism which has been going on among Zionists since their last annual convention in Atlantic City. For the season of active work and particularly for the success of this year’s campaign, it is necessary that the Zionists declare a truce and abstain from further mutual criticism, he said. The prospects of the campaign are good and there is no doubt that if unity is restored in the ranks of the organization, the respective communities will raise their quotas necessary for continuing the work of consolidation in Palestine and for preparing the way for further progress, he declared.
