Along with the general abolishment of the mask by the Ku Klux Klan, which is scheduled to take place February 22, will go the secrecy of the organization, according to a statement issued here by Dr. W. A. Hotalen, lecturer and Klan propagandist of Birmingham, Ala., who said he had been authorized to make official announcements for the body.
The statement denied the report that the robe and helmet would be abolished, and declared that the unmasking did not result from any anticipated anti-masking legislation in Alabama, Georgia, Indiana or Pennsylvania.
In reply to questions, Dr. Hotalen said in effect that the Klan’s policy will be opposed to demonstrations and parades, although such action might be taken by members on special occasions. However, marchers will go unmasked.
