Hassan bey Shukri, the Mayor of Haifa, and Dr. Bernard Hausner, the Polish Commercial Councillor in Palestine, attended the meeting of the Jewish Communal Council held here today.

Mr. Levin who welcomed the guests said that thanks to the Mayor good relations prevail between the representatives of the various Communities in Haifa. The fact that Poland had appointed Dr. Hausner, a Zionist leader, as its economic representative in Palestine, he added, was of great importance for the development of trade relations between the two countries.

The Mayor, Hassan bey Shukri, said that he was endeavoring to work on behalf of all sections of the population. The Jewish demands with regard to the right of the Hebrew language and the employment of Jewish clerks and workers in the Municipality were being gradually fulfilled. He extended his best wishes to Dr. Hausner in his work for the benefit of Poland and Palestine.

Dr. Hausner spoke of the importance of developing economic and other relations with Poland where there are three million Jews. He recalled that there had been cooperation and friendship between the Arabs and the Jews in the past and he expressed his opinion that Hassan bey Shukri was the right man to re-establish such relations at present.
