Anglo-jewish Leaders Honor Lucien Wolf for Work in Behalf of Race

Lucien Wolf, secretary of the Joint Foreign Committee, the agency of Anglo-Jewry to deal with the problem of protecting the rights of the Jewish groups in Europe, was honored at the monthly session of the Board of Jewish Deputies. In recognition of the completion of thirty-nine years of service in this work, Mr. Wolf was presented with a check and bonds amounting to $5,000.

D’Avigdor Goldsmid in his presentation address stated that wherever Jews are persecuted and oppressed, Lucien Wolf has ben untiring in his efforts. He is always ready to go on long journeys in their behalf, despite physical infirmities. Foreign statesmen greatly esteem Mr. Wolf for his service in Jewish interests. Besides his humanitarian work, Mr. Wolf is known as a scholar and a historian.

In his address following the presentation, Mr. Wolf said his labors and achievements were not isolated, but the work of a lifetime and precious to him. People frequently ask what the Joint Foreign Committee has done to improve the position of East European Jews. In reply, Mr. Wolf compared the position before the war and the present situation.

Thanks to the energy of Jewish committees throughout the world, particularly the Joint Foreign Committee, he declared, the oppressed Jews in Eastern Europe have been released from bondage and are now recognized as citizens of their countries. There is no parliament in Eastern Europe where the Jews are not represented.

Mr. Wolf concluded by saying he was proud of the Joint Foreign Committee’s work and their recognition of his services.
