Another step toward Jews’ College becoming a part of the University of London will be taken when the university authorities will inspect the college. A. Kahn, reporting to a meeting of the college’s council on the present stage of the proceedings with the University of London for the admission of the college as school of theology, stated that the university authorities have made arrangements to inspect the college and to investigate its academic standard. If found satisfactory, the college will be admitted to the university.
The Chief Rabbi, Dr. S. H. Hertz, who presided, reminded the council that as far back as 1915 they applied to the University of London for the affiliation of the college but owing to the war negotiations had lapsed.
Professor Dr. A. Buchler, principal of the college, complained that so far no provision had been made to meet the need so strongly felt by the staff, and even more so by the students, by the appointment of a full-time lecturer in Jewish theology and in the philosophy of the Jewish religion. Should the college be admitted to the London University as a school of theology, the two lectureships would be essential for the special work of the college.
The council has resolved to publish a complete list of all the publications of the staff, students and ex-students of the college.
