Canadian Immigrant Welfare Society Reports Progress on Activities

Some 4,219 Jewish immigrants have arrived in Canada within the last fiscal year, according to the report submitted by A. J. Paull, secretary, at the annual meeting of the Jewish Immigrant Aid Society of Canada. A successful year in the work of the Organization was reported. It included the handling of 123 applications by the Free Employment Bureau; the spending of nearly $10,000 for relief and temporary assistance to Jewish wayfarers and immigrants; the serving of 2,012 meals at the ports of entry; and the meeting of 405 steamers during the course of the year.

The percentage of Jewish arrivals to Canada to the total immigration during the fiscal year of April 30, 1927, to May 1, 1928, is 3.63 per cent. Lyon Cohen, S. W. Jacobs, Jewish members of tht Canadian Federal Parliament and A. A. Heaps, another Jewish member of the Canadian Parliament, are taking an active interest in the work of the Hias.

The following officers were elected: Benjamin Robinson, President, L. B. Daniles, First Vice-President; Harry Barsky, Second Vice-President; J. Albert, Treasurer; S. Fels, Honorary Secretary. The Board of Directors includes : H. M. Caiserman, Ben Gold, Harry Gordon, A. Klein, I. Lande, Dr. M. Ratner, L. Rubin, Joseph Schubert, A. Wolofsky, and L. Zucker.
