A numerus clausus on Jewish land possessions in Hungary is planned by the Bethlen Government, it was disclosed in parliamentary circles today.
The new bill which is now being prepared by the cabinet will virtually limit the rights of Jews to purchase land, although the measure does not contain any direct references to Hungarians of the Jewish faith. According to the provisions, every land transaction will need the confirmation of the governmental land office. Only such elements as are deemed desirable and attached to the soil will be permitted to purchase land. Even in the cireles which are friendly to the Bethlen government, it is openly admitted that the bill signifies a numerus clausus against Jewish landowners.
In Jewish and in Liberal circles, it is declared that a sharp fight against the proposed measure is inevitable.
