One of the few ancient synagogues in Haskeny, the Jewish quarter of Constantinople, was sold for a sum of £90.
The Jewish population in the suburb of Haskeny had dwindled to negligible proportions. The synagogue has gradually fallen into disuse because most of the Jewish residents have left the district.
ADOLPH COPELAND REPORTS ON JEWISH EMIGRATION
Adolph Copeland, President of the Chicago Branch of the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society of America, and vice-president of the national organization, returned to America on the teamer Orinoco on Friday. Mr. Copeland, who was accompanied by Mrs. Copeland, spent three months in Europe on behalf of Hias studying Jewish immigration conditions in the various central points.
Upon his arrival he was met by officers and directors of Hias. He will render a full report of his tour to a special meeting of the Board of Directors to be held on Tuesday.
