Urge the Creation of Permanent Minorities Commission of League

The establishment of a Permanent Minorities Commission of the League of Nations to safeguard the interests of the National Minorities was urgd on M. Zahle, President of the League of Nations Assembly, by a deputation which he received this afternoon of representatives of the International Union of League of Nations Societies, headed by Professor Aulard, the famous French historian. Sir Willoughby Dickinson the Chairman of the Minorities Commission of the Union, and Professor abodone Ruyssen. the General Secretary of the Union. Dr. N. Feinberg. representing the Palestine League of Nations Society, was among the members of the deputation. Sir Eric Drummond. The Secretary General of the League of Nations, was present at the interview.

Professor Aulard. who acted as spokesman, submitted to M. Zahle. the resolutions adopted at the last Conference of the Union held recently at The Hague. The League of Nations, he declared in the course of his speech, has a staunch supporter in the League of Nations Union. Proceeding to outline the work of the Union on behalf of the minorities, he said that a great deal had been done in this direction, and in particular the Union had endeavored to establish peaceful relations between the majority and minority peoples. He drew special attention to the resolution adopted by the Union calling for the establishment of a Permanent Minorities Commission of the League of Nations. Such a Commission, he said, would increase the confidence of the minorities in the League of Nations and would promote world peace.

M. Zahle in his reply said that he appreciated the work done by the Union and he was grateful to the deputation for having acquainted him with the resolutions adopted by its Conference. He expressed his readiness to have the more important resolutions of The Hague Conference of the Union published in the official journal of the League of Nations Assembly.
