The full significance of the controversy now raging between the Jews and the Arabs in Palestine over the Western Wall was brought to the attention of British public opinion lucidly in an editorial published yesterday in the “Manchester Guardian,” leading liberal newspaper.

The incidents will have wide repercussions both in world Jewry and in world Islam. There can be no doubt that the incident on Yom Kippur cut the Jews to the quick. Nor have the Arabs been slow to take fire to the Jewish indignation, feeling the British authorities were on their side, and being inclined to belittle the sincerity of the politically-minded modern Jews in Palestine in sharing the indignation of the Orthodox Jews, declares the paper.

This incident sets back the Arab-Jewish cooperation to a serious degree. So far the British Government has made no suggestion which is acceptable to both parties, the paper declares.
