For the first time since the coming into power of the Maniu government, an official complaint that Jewish citizens are suffering at the hands of government officials was presented in the Roumanian parliament. The Minister of the Interior promised a thorough investigation with punitive measures against those found guilty. He appealed to members of parliament to report any cases of this nature directly to the Ministry, thus making unnecessary a parliamentary inquiry.

The Minister of the Interior has proceeded with the dismissal of a sub-commissioner of the Clausenburg secret service, Gindia, for having tortured a Jewish citizen. Disciplinary investigation has been started against him.

Details of the persecutions practiced against Jewish citizens in Bessarabia and Transylvania towns by government officials were presented in parliament today by Deputy Dan, Social Democrat, who declared that government officials are torturing and beating Jewish citizens, their activities being especially directed against members of the Yiddish Cultural League.

In the city Britsheni, district of Chotyn, the Deputy declared, the chief of police, the chief of the gendarmerie and secret service agents heap indignities on the Jewish youth on the pretext that they are searching for Communist literature.

Chief of Police Jon Ursan of Lipkany tortured the Jewish tailor Simon Plek and his son when they came to collect a bill.

Deputy Dan urged the government to suspend immediately the government officials for their barbarous acts and to bring them to trial.
