The removal of two crosses, affixed to Jewish homes by unknown persons in the township Welapin, met with the opposition of the Christian population and led to some disturbance.
The Kehillah of the township owns several barracks where fourteen Jewish families are housed. One morning the inhabitants awoke to find two crosses affixed to the houses.
The President of the Kehillah, Dr. Sher, when informed of the occurrence, ordered the removal of the Christian emblems. Because of the disturbances which followed, the aid of the authorities was invoked. The officials took the matter under advisement, declaring that they will issue a ruling later. The windows in the Kehillah president’s home were smashed during the disturbances. Calm has not yet returned to the population.
