Deputy Theodor Fischer asked a question of the Minister of Religions in parliament today concerning the attempt of the Bucharest authorities to dissolve the Kehillah. The deputy urged the Minister to issue a statement confirming the autonomy of the Kehillah.

The version that is current in Bucharest concernnig the Kehillah incident has it that the government party demanded of the Ministry of the Interior that it appoint a special commission to take charge of the Kehillah affairs due to the alleged misuse of funds by the present management. Upon the protest of Dr. William Filderman and others, Prime Minister Maniu withdrew the order and instituted an investigation.

It is further stated that the Kehillah Council decided to make formal protest against such action, putting up a fight for the autonomy of the Kehillah. In case of necessity, a conference of the Jewish communities in Roumania is to be called to institute a protest movement against the infringement of the autonomous status of the Kehillahs.
