Remembering the clashes which occurred during the May 1st demonstrations of 1928, resulting in many injuries, the Jewish labor parties of Poland have decided this year to observe May Day apart from the Polish labor parties.
It was during the joint demonstration of the Jewish labor parties and the Polish Socialist Party last year that the demonstrations turned into a wholesale attack on Jews. This year the Jewish parties have decided to limit their May Day demonstrations to the Jewish quarter of Warsaw.
The police in the capital have taken extensive precautions for that day, which has become in recent years an eventful day. The authorities have undertaken raids on suspected organizations. Arrests were made among labor leaders, including many Jews. Rumor has it that the authorities will this year prohibit the holding of street demonstrations. but this report was denied. It was declared that only those organizations whose program is directed against the state will be prohibited from marching.
