Schechita Barred in Russian Towns, Riga Hears

The schechita is prohibited in a number of Russian centers with considerable Jewish population groups by the orders of the local communist authorities, reports received here from Russia state.

According to a report, from a source described as authoritative, the schechita prohibition is in existence in Leningrad for over a month and the Jewish population is without kosher meat as a result.

Persons close to Rabbi Schneursohn, known as the Lubawitcher Rebbe, declared today that the Rabbi, who has many followers in Russia, was in receipt of letters from his friends confirming the reports that the prohibitions of the schechita was degreed in a number of other towns in Russia.
