The Administrative Committee of the American Jewish Congress, acting on the request of the United Roumanian Jews of America and several other affiliated organizations has called the attention of the Roumanian Minister at Washington to the threatened wrong with which the Jews of Roumania are faced in the proposed enactment of a law which would break up the unity and undermine the authority of the Jewish communities in Roumania, it was announced by Bernard G. Richards, Executive Director.
In the communication sent on the subject it was pointed out that the proposed new legislation would tend to mark the better relations between all elements ### the population in Roumania.
In the reply received yesterday from the representative of the Roumanian Government, the American Jewish Congress was assured that its representations on the subject would be given immediate attention.
It was announced also that a special committee of the American Jewish Congress which, while abroad will confer with European leaders about Jewish conditions in Europe and will take steps to enlarge the Geneva Bureau of the Council of Minorities, is made up of the following: Morris Weinberg, Chairman, Dr. Stephen S. Wise, Major Julius I. Peyser, Morris Dlugasch, Abraham Goldberg and Joseph Weiss.
The Jewish Daily Bulletin is requested to state that the news story in its issue of July 22 entitled: “Roumanian Jews here protest new religious law” is not in line with the spirit of the decision taken at the meeting of the United Roumanian Jews.
It is informed there was really no question of a protest but merely a friendly intervention with Prime Minister Maniu, to find a solution which will satisfy the Jewish needs.
