An appeal to the British Colonial Office is the only way open to Palestinian Jews in their anxiety to maintain the status quo of the Western Wall of the Temple, commonly known as the Wailing Wall, which is again being threatened through permission granted to the Moslems for building operations on and near the Wall.
Chief Rabbi A. J. Kook of the Ashkenazic community and Chief Rabbi Jacob Meir, of the Sephardic community, conferred for two hours last night with H. C. Luke, Acting High Commissioner of Palestine, who declared that he is unable to do anything because the permission for the building activities was based on the opinion of the Crown’s Law officers.
The Acting High Commissioner promised to do everything in his power to keep the peace at the Wall.
