The rumor spread among Palestine Moslems, which added to the intensity of the anti-Jewish attacks, that Jews “occupied the area of the Mosque of Omar (the site of Solomon’s Temple) and threw bombs on it” was officially denied by the Palestine Arab Executive in a notice made public by Musa Kazim Pasha, chairman of the Executive.
“It was rumored in Northern Palestine that the Jews of Jerusalem have occupied the Haram Sharif and have thrown bombs on it. As this information is entirely unfounded, the Haram not having suffered any damage during the troubles and still remains and will, with God’s help remain in the hands of Moslems, without any contest, we call upon all members of our generous nation not to listen to such seditious reports and to keep quiet and still,” the notice declared.
It was stated in well-informed circles that this proclamation, which was distributed throughout the country, was issued by the Arab Executive at the demand of the Palestine government.
