The new Montefiore Hospital Country Sanatorium for the treatment of incipient tuberculosis, completed recently at Bedford Hills, Westchester County, at a cost of $2,000,000, was opened for inspection for the first time yesterday to friends of the institution and the general public. Under the direction of Sol G. Rosenbaum, president of Montefiore Hospital for Chronic Diseases, of which the new sanatorium is a major department, Israel Unterberg, chairman of the Bedford Hills Committee of the hospital board, Joseph Obermeyer, chairman of the building committee, and Herbert S. Martin, chairman of the reception committee, open house was held at the model institution from 11 a. m. to 4 p. m.
Officers and members of the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies, as well as medical experts and authorities on hospital planning from various parts of the country were among the hundreds of visitors who took part in the open house ceremonies.
The general scheme of design adapted by Robert D. Kohn and Charles Butler, architects of the new buildings, was that of a central infirmary building, four stories high, flanked on each side by two story ward buildings.
