At a general meeting of the Central Relief Committee, held on Monday October 7, Peter Wiernik, editor-in-chief of the “Jewish Morning Journal,” was unanimously elected chairman of the Committee, in place of the late Leon Kamaiky.
The Central Relief Committee was founded fifteen years ago, on Oct. 8, 1914 with the purpose of collecting funds for the Jews abroad suffering through the war. This Committee is one of the three bodies which composed the Joint Distribution Committee. Since 1921 all the Yeshivas, Talmud Torahs, and other Orthodox institutions of learning in Palestine and Europe were supported through the C. R. C. out of the funds of the Cultural Committee of the J. D. C., of which Dr. Cyrus Adler is chairman.
