Golden Chain Order Holds First Annual Meeting

With an attendance of 165 voting delegates, representing sixteen links, newly organized, in addition to an attendance of about 1,000 members of subordinate links, the first annual grand session of the Order of the Golden Chain opened here Wednesday night. It will be in session until Thursday night.

The newly elected officers of the Grand Link were installed by Rabbi Max Davidson, of Perth Amboy, Right Worthy Grand Lecturer of the Grand Link. The officers who will serve on the Grand Staff include: Mrs. Lillie S. Kaplan, of Newark, most worshipful grand matron; Emanuel M. Biron, of Atlantic City, most worthy grand patron: Mrs. Lillie Berla, of Neward, associate grand matron; H. David Zerman, of Union City. associate grand patron; Mrs. Irene Weiss, of Perth Amboy, right worthy conductress; Mrs. Ruth D. Cohan, of Bayonne, associate grand conductress; Mrs. Paula H. Burstein, of Orange, right worthy grand secretary; Mrs. Rose Waxman, of Newark, right worthy grand treasurer; and William L. Greenbaum, of Newark, right worthy grand attorney.

Charters were presented to 21 component units or links at the opening session. The organization, comprising virtually the entire Jewish membership of the Order of Eastern Star in New Jersey, was formed last June after the grand session of that body in Atlantic City, when Jewish chapters declared they could not conscientiously comply with certain obligatory ritual demands.

Paul Felix Warburg, member of the Executive Board of the Jewish Committee on Scouting, Boy Scouts of America, will give a radio address on “The Jewish Boy in Scouting” over Station WEAF, next Wednesday. The address is given through the courtesy of the United Synagogue of America. Dr. Cyrus Adler of Philadelphia is national chairman of the Jewish Committee on Scouting.
