Plans for the purchase of a home and the ultimate construction of a synagogue and community hall which would form a Jewish community here within a few years, were announced yesterday by I. L. Benjamin, Salisbury merchant, who has devoted much time to the project.
The entire building project, when launched, will entail the expenditure of about $75,000. No site has as yet been purchased.
About four years ago, ten Jewish families in Salisbury obtained the services of a rabbi and have held their meetings in halls which were available. It is the interest created by this small congregation which prompts the movement to build the community center.
