Eduard Bernstein, participating in the opening of the German Poale Zion Conference, again declared his sympathy with the Jewish National Home in Palestine and his oppostion to Karl Kautsky’s anti-nationalistic arguments. Before Bernstein’s speech, Dr. Oscar Cohen hailed him in the name of the Jewish workers on the occasion of his eightieth birthday.
Berl Katzenelson spoke about the labor policy of the Palestine workers, emphasizing the moral and financial help from American Jewish workers and pointing out with great optimism the many possibilities in Palestine. Karl Kautsky and Emil Vandervelde, the Belgian Socialist, sent greetings to Bernstein in the name of the Socialist International. The German press is full of articles devoted to celebrating Bernstein’s 80th birthday.
