Three prizes, totaling $500, were recently distributed to three Yiddish writers whose books, published during 1928, are considered the best Yiddish books published in America during that year. The prizes were given by the organization “Heimischer Vinkel,” Branch 178 of the Jewish National Workers’ Alliance.
The first prize of $250 was won by Harry Sekler for his fourth volume of dramas, which contains the comedies “Major Noah,” “Rohab of Jericho” and “The Seer Sees His Bride.” The second prize of $150 was won by J. Opatashu for his book of stories entitled “Bianca.” The third prize of $100 was given to S. Z. Setzer for his book on Jewish ethics, called “Midoth Ha’Rahamim.”
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
