In a bill introduced in the state senate by Senator McAllister of Cumberland County, calling for radical changes in the administration of public school education in New Jersey, there is a proposal for religious schooling. Under the heading of “Character Education” the bill would permit children to be absent two afternoon hours each week to attend weekday religious instructions given by churches or other religious organizations. Attendance at these classes would be supervised by the regular attendance methods.
