While admitting that they had been selling Jewish books brought to this country from Russia, the Amtorg yesterday denied that these books were the same as those that had been confiscated by the Soviet Government in its anti-religious campaign. The Amtorg claimed that the Jewish books sold by them were purchased from individual owners and from book-dealers by the State Trading Company of the White Russian Republic located at Minsk. The Amtorg further declared that all these purchases are accompanied by certificates of sale from the owners, which were forwarded to this country.
