Appreciation to Adolph S. Ochs for his gift of the Menorah Lights to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, was expressed by the trustees of the Cathedral at their regular monthly meeting.

“As a work of art,” the resolution declares, “these Lights are a beautiful and appropriate adornment of the Sanctuary, but in addition to this they have a deep religious significance and value. Standing on either side of the Altar, these Lights are a reminder of the worship of God in the Temple at Jerusalem; they are a symbol of the relation between the Old and New Testaments, and they speak of that ideal of brotherhood among men through faith in the One God and Father of us all for which the Cathedral stands and for the realization of which it is a mighty instrument and influence.”
