It has been revealed today in King’s Bench division of the High Court that a powerful diamond syndicate, headed by Solomon Barnato Joel, and including a considerable number of outstanding figures in the industry has been controlling the world’s diamond output and practically monopolizing the entire market.
The United Diamond Fields of British Guiana, Ltd., an independent competitor, has made the accusation against the syndicate, which involves Otto Oppenheimer, brother of Sir Ernest Oppenheimer, a member of the diamond syndicate. The hearing was adjourned before Sir Patrick Hastings who is representing the Guiana company, had finished his charges.
