Amendment to Pending Bill Seeks to Ban Immigration for 5 Years

Complete suspension of immigration for five years will be offered as an amendment to the pending Harris bill for extension of the quota system to the Western hemisphere immigration it was announced today by Senator Black of Alabama during the debate on the Harris bill.

Senator Hayden of Arizona declared he would support such an amendment in order to cope with labor problems in this country. Bills with a similar purpose have been offered from time to time but neither the immigration committee of the House nor the Senate has ever taken action on them.
