Leonard H. Freiberg, Cincinnati attorney, was elected president of District Grand Lodge No. 2, Independent Order of B’nai B’rith at the final session of the 78th convention at the Kentucky Hotel, succeeding Samuel I. Sievers of St. Louis, Mo. He had been first vice-president and secretary of the district.
Other major officers unanimously elected with Freiberg were: Simon J. Heller, Denver, first vice-president; Samuel Goldstein, Lorain, second vice-president; William Ornstein, Cincinnati, reelected treasurer; and Chauncey D. Pichel, former Cincinnati municipal judge, secretary. Sidney Kusworm presided over the installation ceremonies.
Edward J. Schanfarber, Columbus, O., attorney, was named as district lodge representative for Hillel Foundation in appreciation of his work at Ohio State University. Retiring President Sievers was presented with a silver Menorah.
Resolutions were read by Rabbi Jacob J. Gittleman, chairman of the committee on national and international questions, which endorsed the Kellopp Peace Pact, formation of the Jewish Agency in Switzerland last summer and launching of the Allied Jewish Campaign.
