There will be no change in the attitude of the Socialist International towards Zionism, according to a statement issued yesterday by the Central Committee of the American Poale Zion party, which is affiliated with the International, and printed in the New York “Day.”
“The Socialist Labor International which was founded in 1923 through the union of the Second and the Vienna International, has never as such taken any attitude towards Zionism,” says the statement. “The Poale Zion have never wished to start a quarrel in the International around Zionism, but have endeavored to organize independently all those international Socialist forces who are willing to help the Palestine workers. Thus during the Socialist International Congress in Brussels in 1928 was founded the Socialist Committee for the Palestine Workers, with the participation of such eminent Socialists as Vandervelde, de Bruker, Huysman, Henderson, Leon Blum, Eduard Bernstein, Victor Chernoff, Zeretelli and others. Therefore the present decision of the Executive to the effect that the International as such takes no attitude towards Zionism confirms the situation that has existed until now.”
